  2. Explain the necessity of cultural humility in working with LGBTQ+ patients.
  3. Identify health disparities in L, G, B, T people.
  4. Plan methods to incorporate best practices for care and treatment of members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Challenge 1: Understanding Gender Affirming and Culturally Appropriate Care.

Why are one’s pronouns important? How can nurses effectively affirm the gender of the patients under our care? Work through this elearning module to learn strategies for effectively communicating with LGBTQ+ patients that affirm gender and apply culturally appropriate care.

To achieve this challenge, work through the elearning module, Gender Affirming and Culturally Appropriate Care for LGBTQ+ Patients, and reflect on the following questions:

  1. What can you as a nurse do to support LGBTQ+ people who are part of the healthcare system?
  2. How can you be an ally/advocate for your LGBTQ+ patients?
