Challenge 1: Introduction to HIV and Primary Care

Work through Lessons 1 and 2 in the elearning module to garner a basic understanding of the HIV Care Continuum and the impact of HIV on the Social Determinants of Health.

    Work through Lessons 3, 4 and 5 in the elearning module to understand preventive measures and the role of the nurse in caring for HIV patients.

    To achieve this challenge, think about your role as a nurse in the care and treatment of patients with HIV using the following prompts to guide your reflection:

    • What are the tools available for use as HIV prevention? Why is wanting PrEP a reason to receive PrEP?
    • Discuss the desired attitudes and practices of nurses working with HIV patients. How can you adopt these attitudes and practices? What changes or adjustments do you need to make?
    • How do you perceive your role in a team-based approach to HIV within primary care settings?
